This week’s interview is with Dr Stephen McDonald. He is the Clinical Director of Renal Services for the Country Health region of SA Health.

We talk with Stephen about recent developments towards establishing a dialysis facility on the APY Lands.

In June 2015, the Purple House in Alice Springs was allocated money by the Commonwealth Government to build a dialysis facility in Ernabella/Pukatja on the APY Lands. The Purple House then submitted a business case to the South Australia Department of Health in October 2015. On 26th July this year, the South Australia Minister for Health, the Honourable Jack Snelling, announced in Parliament that, after assessing the feasibility of the Purple House’s proposal, SA Health is now in a position to enter into a formal contract with Purple House for the delivery of dialysis services in Ernabella/Pukatja.
