Colleen Rosas

Colleen Rosas is the Director of the Northern Territory Aboriginal Interpreter Service.

In this interview, Colleen talks about a push to improve interpreting services on the APY and Ngaanyatjarra Lands.

A new 12-month trial – funded by the Australian Government – is expected to make it much easier for individuals and communities to make informed decision for themselves in their own languages.

The trial will generate casual, part-time and full-time employment on the APY Lands for around 20 new and experienced Anangu interpreters.

Colleen discusses the way the Aboriginal Interpreter Services goes about selecting interpreters for particular assignments, and the training and support Anangu will receive if they take on one of these roles.

She also explains how to book an interpreter, what it costs and the pay scale for Anangu interpreters.

To make an enquiry or book an interpreter, call the Aboriginal Interpreter Service on (08) 8999 8353.
