In the mid 1990s, the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council held a series of basket-weaving workshops as a way of creating regular income for Anangu women. More than 20 years later, this initiative continues as Tjanpi Desert Weavers.
A new book celebrating this extraordinary social enterprise’s “joys, triumphs and challenges” will be launched in Adelaide on Sunday, 26 February 2012. The launch begins at 3pm in the UniSA Marquee at the ‘Spirit Festival’, Mullawirraburka Rymill Park (corner of Grenfell Street and East Terrace).
The book, which has been compiled by Penny Watson, is published by Macmillan Art Publishing.
